Chronic or persistent pain is lasting from 3 months to lifetime. Long term pain has many physical causes such as arthritis, old injury, illness, nerve damage or back problems. However, psychological factors such as depression, low mood, and anxiety can play a massive part in the process of perceiving pain. Combined with social pressures like housing issues, family and job problems can make the pain unbearable. Pain is not visible, therefore, at AMR physiotherapy we strive to help people who suffer in silence.
At AMR physiotherapy we concentrate at individual as a whole and try to find a way to manage the symptoms better. It sometimes feels like chronic pain is being stigmatised. Other times, people feel like the only way to manage is with medication. However, pain medication tends to have significant side effects which can change individual’s personality, make them lethargic and apathetic.
Chronic pain is there to stay, but it does not mean it is there to limit your life and enjoyment. We will help to understand pain better and hopefully find ways to manage it.
